Children are the gift of our future

Our History

Merryhill Child Care Center, Inc. is a nonprofit organization licensed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Health Services (#13774) and managed by a Board of Directors. Merryhill opened in 1990 as a joint venture of the Fairfield Hills Hospital Management and New England Health Care Union District 1199 to provide quality child care to state employees. When Fairfield Hills Hospital closed its facility, Merryhill was disassociated from the State of Connecticut and became responsible for operating on its own accord. Since then, Merryhill has been operating as a private, non-profit child care center. Merryhill encourages center families to volunteer in any capacity, such as joining our Board of Directors, assisting in fundraising, participating in center events, visiting a classroom and more. As a nonprofit organization, Merryhill fully relies on tuition and donations for its program’s success and investing back into the Center and classrooms.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy at Merryhill is to provide a variety of experiences to enhance every child’s growth and development. In doing so, we recognize the individuality and uniqueness of each child who walks through our doors. Our staff takes great measures to grow positive self-images and foster confidence in our children’s abilities and talents.

To provide the quality child care services we strive to achieve, we create appropriate activities for the educational, social, emotional and physical development of all children entrusted in our care. Our philosophy is modeled on the practices and beliefs endorsed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Our Staff

At Merryhill particular care is taken when selecting staff. We look for care givers who are responsive to young children and highly motivated to help them grow and develop according to our philosophy.

When choosing teachers for each program area, we seek out qualifications and traits essential in providing quality child care, including previous child care experience, a high level of education, maturity, friendliness, patience and a nurturing heart.

Our teachers are actively involved in training seminars and are required to dedicate a percentage of their hours each year to further their education. Each member of our staff is given the opportunity to plan exciting and creative programs for our children.

For safety precautions, each teacher is certified in Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR. A senior staff member is on duty at all times during the center’s hours of operation. In addition, we have a registered nurse who reports to the center on a weekly basis and remains on call for emergency situations.

A pediatric dentist, physician, social service worker, and educational consultant are also available as needed.

“I am very happy that I sent my girls to Merryhill. It is a warm and loving environment where they have thrived. The teachers have been wonderful and have always provided love, care and support to both of them. I have always had good communication with them as well. Karen has always been supportive, easy to talk to and extremely pleasant. I love the beautiful backyard and surroundings where children can safely play and explore. I also love the small size of the school and how everyone knows one another. Merryhill feels like family.” – Mary
