About Us

Our child care center has been a part of Newtown for over 30 years.

Our History

Merryhill Child Care Center, Inc. is a nonprofit organization licensed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Health Services (#13774) and managed by a Board of Directors. Merryhill opened in 1990 as a joint venture of the Fairfield Hills Hospital Management and New England Health Care Union District 1199 to provide quality childcare to state employees.

When Fairfield Hills Hospital closed its facility, Merryhill was disassociated from the State of Connecticut and became responsible for operating on its own accord. Since then, Merryhill has been operating as a private, non-profit child care center. Merryhill encourages center families to volunteer in any capacity, such as joining our Board of Directors, assisting in fundraising, participating in center events, visiting a classroom, and more.

As a nonprofit organization, Merryhill fully relies on tuition and donations for its program’s success and investing back into the Center and classrooms. Merryhill is licensed by the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), promoting high-quality learning experiences for young children. For a full list of our compliances and codes, visit the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC).

Our Philosophy

  • Recognize the individuality and uniqueness of each child who walks through our doors.

  • Create appropriate activities for the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of all children entrusted in our care.

  • Provide a variety of experiences to enhance every child’s growth and development.

  • Grow positive self-images and foster confidence in our children’s abilities and talents.

Our philosophy is modeled on the practices and beliefs endorsed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
